Easton is proud of its many organizations and the stately buildings that house them. But without their dedicated staffs and the indefatigable corps of volunteers who contribute their time and energy, most of the events that Easton is noted for would never get beyond the drawing board. Community involvement and working together to make our town a special place to live are longtime Easton traditions.
Since its founding in 1958 in downtown Easton, the Academy Art Museum has presented an unparalleled level of artistic and educational offerings. Considered one of the finest regional art museums in the country, the Academy Art Museum is dedicated to presenting rotating exhibitions of national significance and the best from the region's artistic community. Complementing the exhibitions is a year-round schedule of programs including classes, lectures, outreach and concerts.
The Historic Avalon Theatre is the "Showplace of the Eastern Shore." From the Symphony to Bluegrass, Comedians to Art Festivals, the Avalon provides entertainment for the entire family no matter what your interest.
The first of the Avalon Foundation's three facilities is the historic Avalon Theatre, an 86-year-old art deco theatre that serves as a community performing arts center and meeting venue; the second facility is the Easton Resource Center/ Easton Main Street, which operates as a meeting venue and community special events planner and facilitator for over 100 different community organizations; and finally Mid-Shore Community Television (MCTV), the area's public community access cable station located in the Avalon Theatre.
The Historical Society of Talbot County was founded in 1954 to "preserve, communicate and celebrate the heritage of Talbot County, Maryland by educating residents and visitors." From exhibits to educational programs, special events to research opportunities, the Historical Society is the leading resource for discovering Talbot County's past.
The Historical Society's campus is located in Downtown Easton, in the heart of beautiful Talbot County. The Society's museum and historic houses surround award-winning gardens, maintained by the Talbot County Garden Club. The Society features an artifact collection of over 10,000 objects, a document archives, and a significant photograph collection in excess of 40,000 images. The Historical Society also owns and operates the Museum Shop, a book and gift shop; Tharpe Antiques and Decorative Arts, an antique consignment shop; and the Auditorium, a multi-purpose program space and rental facility.
The Talbot County Chamber of Commerce is the voice of business for 800 members representing 8,000 employees. Our objective is to protect, preserve and promote the free enterprise system of business and to advance the commercial, industrial, civic and general interests of the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Talbot County and its trading area. We endeavor to create a better understanding and appreciation of the importance of business people and concern for their problems. The Chamber encourages business and community growth and planned development by promoting economic programs designed to strengthen and expand income potential of all business within our trading area.
The Talbot County Office of Tourism, the designed Destination Marketing Organization for Easton, St. Michaels, Tilghman Island, Oxford and Trappe, is the main artery accelerating the hospitality economic engine. “Culinary Tourism”, “Wellness Tourism”, and “Heritage Tourism” bring together the richness of the County’s prestigious landscapes, waterscapes, agriculture, and history. More than 600 miles of pristine shoreline, metropolitan amenities and small town charm create a traveler experience that is both memorable and authentic.Featuring a Visitor Center staffed six days a week at 11 South Harrison Street, County Tourism actively caters to thousands of visitors to the area each year.
Easton Main Street is fully supported by the Town of Easton. The local municipal government sponsors a Main Street program manager and contributes towards the development of annual events and activities carried out by the program. Through the Main Street program the Town seeks to partner with local non profits, businesses, property owners, and attractions in order to help support the on-going need for downtown revitalization.
