Linda Kirvan

Linda Kirvan is a native of Washington, D.C. where she attended school and studied art and design at local colleges and universities as well as with instructors throughout the country. She has worked in oils, watercolor and printmaking. Her love of nature and the outdoors is a perfect fit with plein air painting.

Betty Huang

Betty Huang’s highly personal style is the result of growing up surrounded by the Asian art that her parents collected and taught her to love as part of her heritage. She loves to paint on location to capture her subject's beauty. Her work is displayed in national and international venues. Betty calls Easton home.

Dudley Davis

Dudley Davis has been painting Eastern Shore landscapes and lifestyles for the past five years. He works in oils, watercolor, acrylics, and pastel. His work has been exhibited in St. Michaels, Oxford, Easton, Cambridge, and Chestertown. He lives in Wittman and is frequently asked to paint portraits of houses, boats, and pets.

Perry Foster

Perry Foster explains, “It is my aim to try to catch a piece of this unique area of flat land, shining water and uncommon light and depict its ever-changing moods on canvas. Through my paintings, I hope to stop time to enable others to share with me the beauty and serenity I find in the fields, marshes, rivers and natural world that surround me.”

Pam Foss

Pam Foss is a sculptor who is best known for her bronzes celebrating famous moments in thoroughbred racing history and her stunning wildlife bronzes of eagles and herons. Her Bald eagle Angle of Attack won an award from the Salmagundi Club in New York. Pam’s major bronzes may be seen at The Monroe Building in Washington DC and Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis.


Richard Dorbin

Richard Dorbin grew up in the mountains of New Mexico where he was influenced by local plein air painter Tommy Maccione, local photographer Elliot Porter, and the funky Santa Fe art community. He is a professional photographer and was awarded the Up and Coming Artist Award at the 2009 Mid-Shore Choose Three Plein Air-Easton! Competition.

Jane Bollman

Jane Bollman received her BA from Hood College, MLA from Johns Hopkins and attended classes at MD Institute and Goucher College. She held teaching and management positions in Baltimore. Jane is a member of Working Artists Forum and Talbot County Arts Council. She received awards in Local Color and Chesapeake College shows.

Kathy Kopec

Kathy Kopec shares, “Twenty years ago I decided to pursue my passion and took some art classes at a community college in New Jersey. Upon moving to the Eastern Shore in 2001, I began to take my painting more seriously. Though mostly self-taught, I continue to learn much from the talented artists in the area who share their techniques.”

Wallace McGarry

Wallace McGarry studied art at the Chounard Art Institute before starting a successful thirty-five year career in advertising/illustration in Los Angeles. After retiring to the Eastern Shore, he has taught many local classes and workshops for those interested in learning to paint in oil.

Deborah Scales

Deborah Scales' artistic career as a painter and art educator spans three decades from Maryland to the Fiji Islands where she emerged as a prominent and widely collected South Pacific painter. She now paints at The Water’s Way Studio in St. Michaels. Her joyful, colorful palette expresses the Chesapeake lifestyle.

Jennifer Heyd Wharton

Jennifer Heyd Wharton has earned recognition as one of the best known artists in Maryland and through her unique perspective in color and texture, she is rapidly gaining attention throughout the U.S. She graduated from Moore College of Art and co-owns Troika Gallery Fine Art Studio in Easton.

Laura Era

Laura Era was raised on the Eastern Shore, and has been an artist since birth. She has taken workshops from Daniel Greene, Burton Silverman, and Raoul Middleman. She has painted hundreds of portraits on commission in pastel and oils and teaches classes and workshops. She is co-owner of Troika Gallery Fine Art Studio.

Dorothy Newland

Dorothy Newland is co-owner of Troika Gallery Fine Art Studio in Easton. She works mainly in oil paint. Her bold and vigorous images have demanded numerous awards in wider and wider areas. She attended PA University of Art and the MD Institute College of Art. She studied extensively with master painters and in workshops throughout the east.

Jean Ranney Smith

Jean Ranney Smith is the daughter of two artists. She is a graduate of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She has painted and taught in this area for over 40 years. Her favorite subjects include portraits and landscapes in oil or watercolor.

Helen Cardiff

Helen Cardiff and her family split their time between the maritime providences of Canada and Talbot County, MD. Beauty has always been there to inspire her and competition between family members was always present to drive experimentation and the production of new art. Art was just expected to be a love to be pursued by herself and all of her siblings.

Joel Shilliday

Joel Shilliday has been sketching, painting and creating since he was a child.  He has had at least one Labrador Retriever with him every day of his life. Joel is an officer with the Shark Research Institute and paints endangered and protected species. He owns a web design and multimedia development business in Easton.

Ann Ford

Ann Ford and her husband moved from Easton to Raleigh, NC where she taught and exhibited art for twenty years. After returning to Easton, she began teaching at the Talbot Senior Center. She enjoys this “as it gives me great satisfaction to see others develop their artistic tendencies”. She has participated in the Arts In Easton Banner Program since its inception.

Dian Breza

Dian Breza graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in NY, was a Fashion Designer in New York and Paris for twelve years, and a Jewelry Designer in London for seven years. She’s been an Art Instructor for children at the Academy Art Museum since moving to Easton.

Katie Theeke

Katie Theeke paints primarily in oils and much of her work has a narrative quality. She enjoys painting landscapes and scenes that depict everyday moments. She studied at the University of Michigan and in Florence, Italy; graduating with a BFA in 1995. She taught art at the Bullis School in Potomac, MD. Katie lives with her family in Easton.

Joanne Magruder

Joanne Magruder is a native of Rockville, MD. She studied art at the Corcoran School of Art, Montgomery College, and in numerous workshops. She has worked as a commercial artist and taught art in elementary school. She has been in the Arts In Easton Banner Program since its inception and has fun producing whimsical images.

Elinor Peterson

Elinor Peterson has always been interested in art and enjoys artistically interpreting the special beauty of the Eastern Shore. She feels painting has greatly enriched her life and pursues the expression of her creativity while working in watercolor, pastels, and acrylics.

Katie Cassidy

Katie Cassidy is a noted teacher of multiple art disciplines at the Academy Art Museum and other local art centers. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in art and is well known for her comprehensive knowledge of the basics and techniques of many mediums, especially charcoal and pastel.

Matt Ghrist

Matt Ghrist’s banner is an extension of his biography. He shares, “It represents those things that are of importance and interest to me. Both are paintings, creations of mind and soul, that must happen. Fishing, crabbing, and food are the inspirations, or better yet, necessary passions that make it work.

Karen Wood


Karen Wood is an oil painter who works primarily en plein air. She received a Fine Arts degree from the University of Maryland and painted with W. Carmen Davis, discovering the joy of painting on site. She is a member of the Working Artists Forum and Plein Air Painters of the Eastern Shore. She’s been a Plein Air-Easton! painter for 3 years.

Will Cook

Will Cook has been a life-long resident of Maryland. His interests include gardening, woodworking, photography and graphic arts. His favorite subjects are scenes typical of life on the Eastern Shore, including the towns, farmlands and wetlands of Talbot County. Will is a member of the St. Michaels Art League and the Working Artists Forum.

Ken Lehman

Ken Lehman prefers to paint the images with which he grew up. A painting is a success if it brings back a sense of place to him. His paintings are represented by Troika Gallery in Easton.

Robert Manning

Robert Manning is best known for his paintings of local bins and barns, the rapidly disappearing landscape of the Eastern Shore. He has received numerous awards and commissions. He paints regularly with the Plein Air Painters of the Eastern Shore.

Rose E. W. Doster

Rose E. W. Doster has been an artist for over 45 years and is included in many “Who's Who” publications. She is a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art. She is frequently asked to paint portraits of farms, homes, people and pets. She likes to record by painting the historical buildings and objects she observes.

Patty Fisher

Patty Fisher explains her art this way: “I've been painting since a small girl, and I have a passion for it! It doesn't matter the subject matter, but what captures my eyes, and then putting paint to canvas is extremely rewarding, as are my pet portraits, in capturing their eyes.

Maggii Sarfaty

Maggii Sarfaty has been painting since age five. After attending Maryland Institute College of Art, murals and decorative paintings have become her passion and business for the last twenty-two years. She and her family have lived in the historic district of Easton for the past thirteen years.

David Grafton

David Grafton is an American Landscape Painter/Teacher; is in the Pastel Society of America, the Allied Artists of N.Y, the National Arts Clubs of Woodmere (PA), Phillips Mill (PA), NYU, and Greenville Center for the Arts (NC). He won the 2006 Lee Lawrie Award from the Academy Art Museum, and has been a gallery owner in Easton, MD for seven years.

Stephen Griffin

Stephen Griffin is an accomplished painter who works in the impressionist style. His work can be seen at the Grafton Gallery in Easton. Stephen has participated in several Plein Air-Easton! events.

Karen Mathis

Karen Mathis is an award winning artist in both watercolor and oil. Her "Cove Light" studio is located in Easton. She is best known for her landscape paintings featuring the effects of light on the tidal waters of this area. Karen has participated in Plein Air-Easton! events and has exhibited works from coast-to-coast.

Willy Schlossbach

Willy Schlossbach has been a participant in the banner program since its inception. He paints landscapes, townscapes, and marine subjects. He has a studio in Cambridge and teaches intermediate students to express themselves through painting.

Gwen Cameron

Gwen Cameron is a photographer who mastered the use of digital photography to create PhotoArt which she produces at her studio in Wittman, Maryland. Gwen’s PhotoArt can be produced on a wide variety of materials. She belongs to many art organizations and has exhibited her work.

Jeanne Saulsbury

Jeanne Saulsbury is a past president of Working Artists Forum and a member of the Steering Committee of Plein Air-Easton! In addition, she is a partner and exhibitor in The Artists' Gallery in Chestertown, MD. Jeanne and her husband, Orrell, live in Ridgely, MD where she can be found painting in her Shady Grove Studio.

Lynne Johnson Horvath

Lynne Johnson Horvath has been a painter for over 30 years, and has exhibited in NY, VT, CA and MD where she now resides. As a frequent award winner for her paintings, Lynne's goal is to make the observer see a moment in time, an interior or outside scene with a different viewpoint, or scenarios from dreams.

Diane Laukenmann

Diane Laukenmann of Easton, MD is a member of the Working Artists Forum, Friday Morning Artists, Plein Air Painters of The Eastern Shore, St. Michaels Art League, and others in the Delmarva region. Diane studied Art and Art History at Towson State University and was a student of renowned national artists.

Patrick Rogan

Patrick Rogan has exhibited paintings in group and solo exhibitions in the DC area including the Anton Gallery, George Mason University and Signal 66. He received a MFA in Painting from Catholic University and has been an adjunct instructor of visual art as part of the faculty of Marymount University and George Washington University.

M. Joyce Ziegler

M. Joyce Ziegler explains her approach to painting, “I love to be in gardens, at seashores, marshes, and other country settings to paint views of nature as I travel with my sable brushes, tubes of oils, and tripod easel. I am fortunate to have a career that brings me so much pleasure.

Madeline Eli

Madeline Eli attended Housatonic Community College and Silvermine Art School in CT where she studied with well known artists. She is a member of MD and CT Pastel Societies, Friday Morning Artists, Talbot County Visual Arts Center, Working Artists’ Forum, and numerous other art groups. Madeline is a signature member of Pastel Society of America.

Mary Ellen Mabe

Mary Ellen Mabe has been painting on an amateur basis for many years. She has attended classes at The Studio in the Woods while living outside Chicago. Since moving to the Eastern Shore in 2004, she has been a participant in several workshops given by various artists-teachers.

Diane DuBois Mullaly

Diane DuBois Mullaly is an award winning painter of miniatures in oil, a devoted plein air painter, and works for South Street Art Gallery where she is represented. She attended Tyler School of Art. A Plein Air-Easton! competition artist in 2006, 2007, and 2009, she seeks magical moments —some dramatic, some serene— to capture in paint.

Barrie Barnett

Barrie Barnett is a local portrait painter who began formal art training at age nine. After college, she had a successful 15 year career painting portraits of children in the South. She switched to painting dogs and had solo shows in NY, Palm Beach, and Carmel. Barrie’s studio is at the Tidewater Center for the Arts in Easton.

Joe Mayer

Joe Mayer is a cartoonist for Cochran Publishing Co. and Kendall Hunt. He has exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery, Baltimore Museum, Gallery 54, McBride Gallery, and Barbara Fiedler Galleries. His art has earned him many prestigious awards. Joe is the founder of Friday Morning Artists and Tidewater Center for the Arts
